Amazon bargain annular cutters

I was after a 30mm or 31mm roto broach cutter. Going rate seems to be about £35 to £50. Long series being more. Then I found this bargain on Amazon. £10 or so!
I thought it would be rubbish but it looks and feels great quality.
Never heard of the make before. Claims to be hss with 8% cobalt. Made in Germany not that I care.
Worked perfectly so I ordered several other sizes. £11 for a 40mm and £5 for a 24mm. Crazy prices
Oh and using my Bridgeport worked fine in an er32 collet. No need for a pilot drill nor a weldon adaptor.

Bought a couple of cheap 18mm tct hole saws from amazon a while back.

Surprise with how well they worked on stainless, especially when they were only £5 each.

I have never tried the tct ones but I much prefer an annular cutter to a hole saw. Clears swarf and chips far better.

Hadn't heard of annular cutters until this thread. I've just been using Bosch bi-metal hole saws whenever i've needed a "big" hole in something. When should one opt for an annular cutter over a hole saw?

Annular cutters or rotobroaches are normally used in mag drills for drilling holes through steel joists etc. They are nice and sharp and remove debris far better than a hole saw. Much better on steel etc. They are also used for cutting big holes in concrete etc but those ones have carbide teeth.
Never tried one with a normal drill but should be ok. They tend to work best at slower speeds wirh plenty or pressure.
Cost is normally the drawback but they last far longer than a hole saw.

Could you design something so you can use the centring pin and spring in the ER chuck to pop out the slug?

Maybe in an ER chuck, a free-floating pin with an external spring, a bit like in a traditional hole saw, would work better. The bit that retains the spring up inside the annular cutter could be 3D printed and just use a tight fit to hold itself in place.

Maybe that thing already exists. Perhaps the collective could find it.

I could but the plug drops out by itself 75% of the time. For the odd one that gets stuck I just use one of those hooks with a magnet on it as used for hanging tools. Not going to work on aluminium though

The rest arrived today. 45mm one most expensive at £10 smaller ones £5 each. Must have been clearance or something no more left.

All I can find on Dutch Amazon is a Projahn 50mm one 55mm long. €235, I dont think so.

All my annular cutter are Phantom, which is a good quality Dutch brand, and those are in that price range. €235 is ludicrous.
You did good with those bargains.

It is indeed. I was quite happy with my £10 quality seems fine.
