third from the left looks to be the best weld !
remember the settings as you go and then practice with those that are best
it may be better to practice on some heavier ali to start , cool it down after each bead as the ali will saturate with heat and all welds will be different , good luck

Thanks Tig man yes that was the best by far i turned up the wick and used less peddle another go tomorrow with thicker ali and i will let it cool before the next weld I just need to understand what is going on with the adjustments made on the welder. thanks again.

As said the 3rd appears to be best,
1st one looks like that about 3/4 the way done you overheated the weldpool by either too much current or slow travel speed,
2nd looks a bit cold based on high the weld pool is and appears to have a lot of ac cleaning as its quite shiny,
4th appears a bit muddy as the piece of ali might have been hot still from the first three passes?

The third was the last pass as i turned up the amps with less peddle don't think i had enough power on 1-2&4 and the bit of plate would have had heat sink its a lot to learn but common sense will help if it looks good it prob is. thank you for the advice this is a great forum some very skilled people on here.

.Just put your notes on the actual practice piece lika dis:
I share your pain, then again, I don't, coz you got a pedal and I aint- I got a 26 chipping hammer torch and no pedal coz I'm hardcore (make that skint for the moment).
I also write the notes up in the owners manual that comes with the set, I have those settings in the welders memory now,but I now realise I need to change the balance for what I want to do, but the memory thing is handy to put you in the frame for starters.
Have to admit I'm thinking of giving up on ali, but I'll wait till I can afford a pedal and a different torch.

Funny i got the same torch mine's a bas!!!!rd been setting up the water cooler this morn Got family duty this afternoon.
Never give up walk away have a cuppa or a fag and go back to it mind i am the most stubborn man you could meet. From fixing fridges on the road i don't fix it a lot of money gets thrown away.

No, I never give up or give in until I have given my best-I belted the hell out of my first test piece and the welds did not let go.Its just that I'm struggling to find a project I can do in ali for what I do.
Now Titanium, that I can find a use for, but I don't need AC for that and Ti is a real challenge-just have to sell the bike to buy the filler rods.

I don't think he has got any corners, I think the runs are on a piece of flat-I think first weld on right in picture is on a bend rather than a join?
