Aluminium filler

Hi all,

I've been confusing myself so thought I better ask the experts! I have to weld up a tray made of 1050 aluminium. I need to dress these back and blend them flush. I then have to weld a part to it made from 5251 aluminium. Both parts will be bare alloy with no other surface finish.

Currently have 5356 filler. Would this be a good colour match for the 1050 welds, or should I get some 1050. Is it ok for welding the 5251 piece to the 1050 or should I get some 4043?

1050 to 1050 use 1050
1050 to 5251 use 5356.
Colour match between the two won’t be perfect as the 5356 will be duller than the mirror like shine you get from 1050 but metallurgy wise this is correct. Don’t use 1050 to weld on the 5*** series because it will likely crack

I prefer 1070 filler for 1050 parts if the welds need to be planished due to its great ductility.
Otherwise 4043 is better than 5356.

When joining 50 series with 1050 5356 is better than 4043.

Edit : Haha, beaten by two. Note to self, finnish post before refilling coffee. At least we said the same
