aluminium backing

Hi guys I have a lot of hardfacing to do in a few weeks time on a screener which has star rotors. I was contemplating making two templates out of Aluminium to clamp to each star in turn to get a uniform build up. I was thinking of using 5 mm Ally but my question is......... is there a certain type of Alluminium I should be looking to use which would stand up to the job ?

What sort of temp are these parts likely to get to once your cladding them? That will determine really as to whether is suitable. Alu has a low melting point (600°c)
Copper may be a much more suitable choice.

To be honest Richard I dont know, the company who we deal with suggested that I try this method, apparently they have used this method with some success but I was a tad dubious hence posting on here
