Alumig 250P settings

Thought I would get a Pulse Mig instead of Tig welding steel tubing (CrMo & mild,2-3 mm wall),so bought a Alumig 250P from Australia (via China !),but the backup is not good,(supplier told me to only use pulse on alloy.!!)and no Operators manual.
Been welding 30 years but never Pulse Mig so bit unsure of basic settings.
Not sure what all the Square wave features are,also used to welders with dials not digital !!!
Any advise would be gratefully accepted ..!!

To be fair a lot of people only use pulse on ally, and run mild and stainless in standard mode, however pulse does work very well on stainless, but there can be a bit too energy in the arc for thin section. The 'square wave' bit you refer to looks like a section for setting up the time/current base for a pulse on pulse mode. I'd say it is probably toggled on or off by scrolling through the 4 trigger functions on the left hand of the panel, most pulse migs seem to be variations on a similar theme.

Don't know if it helps but I have had some luck through these contacts for other things ask nice with Mr, Miss, in front of name it does make a difference.

Pretty self explanitory from the diagrams i reckon....

Press for your gas and wire selections....

Right had i reckon is voltage, left hand knob is wire speed....

Bottom left arrow looks like it might be up/down slope.....

The CH button, not sure, possibly preset programmes.....
The gas cylinder, probably a gas purge button...

The other arrows, select the cursor for setting post flow, burn back etc....


Get a few bits of gash material, try the various buttons, and see what happens....

Thank you for your replies,yes alot of it is self explanitory but was a but was bit unsure of the "trigger"functions.I sent a very polite email to Mr.Robin Yan but did not get a reply..while i know it (pulse)has great advantages on alloy,I have seen it used on steel with very little spatter and minimal heat input as well...
Will check out the other links as well..
Great to get others thoughts and experience and will crank it up and start experimenting !!

The same machine is sold in USA as Longevity MigWeld 250MP There are also some videos in YouTube about this machine. I wonder if this machine is available in Europe with its original TOPWELL branding, or maybe with different branding...

Try www.topwellwelders.com... The site is changed from their original Chinese domain, and the eye candy and scrolling banners are a problem for my tablet to navigate, but used to be no problem except for some of the idiomatically marginal English on the pages. The manuals should be in the 'resources' tab at the top of the screen. If you have a problem getting one, PM me and I think I can send you last year's version, as I was looking at them for a prospective purchase.

If it wants a password for the download, try "123", as that was the magic response on their older site. These welders are also private labeled as "Triton" in Russia and parts of Eastern Europe, and were sold in Australia under a private label, as well.

I have already download the manual (I think from the Australian site). I have seen also some Youtube videos from Russia, but still don't know if the machine is sold & supported by after sales service anywhere in Europe.

Thanks jrwhalley - the manual has helped - I've been in contact with Topwell - so far I've been asked some things that make sense and others that don't. Let me explain. My welder is intermittent - some times you can get it to start welding other times it does not. I found issues on the ground wire and other connection issues showing signs or arcing in the machine. No change after fixing the issues though. If you go through the Longevity migweld 250mp - "looks exactly like the Topwell" you will find a front panel key sequence to get into the advance settings - I loaded the default settings hoping that would help "don't do that" it didn't. If someone has this model it would be great to get the settings there machine is using. On mine I think it zero'd everything out. I could guess but some of the setup ranges are pretty big. What mine does is feed wire like crazy but never starts the arc - same with the MMA - I checked the open circuit voltage with the mig gun triggered no wire - just under 50volts DC - also checked the IGBT driver board output using a lab scope with the AC voltage removed from the power side of that circuit. It all looks normal - my next step is ordering a current load sensor that may or may not be bad. I may be able to bench test it since it's a hall effect sensor and I can introduce a load to see if the 4 volt output is actually working. If I set it to pulse it will also feed wire for a bit then kicks in and welds like crazy - so hot it kind of messed up one of the Mig gun tips during testing. Overall I like the unit - build quality seems to be very good for this type of product. Of course it's not the same as my older Miller stuff - then built the older style US welders to last. That includes other brand then Miller - that's all I have though other then an old Century AC/DC alt welder - that's also a beast.

Hi JMAmocodude: have you found a solution for your proplem? I was replacing the end bar on boat trailer nearly finished the job, was going to tack the last bracket on and got no arc, wire and gas feeds lights on but when I activate the gun it reads 0 amps and volts. It's a borrowed machine alumig250p doesn't look used much. hope you found you fix, Cheers

Same problem with mine from new. I posted on here in 2013 (grdeng) looking for setup advice. Mine welds steel on higher amps, but is often very intermittent . On alloy it did what yours does, feed wire at high speed on some settings or just stuttered. Mine is labelled Weld Smart and I imported it into NZ from Australia in 2013. The company I purchased it from was useless to deal with. I shoved it in a corner and bought another machine. Did you have any luck fixing your welder?
