alternator refurb

ok i have just swapped my alternator over for a new lucas one but I am going to refurbish my old one.

I have done a few in the past normally it is the reg pack that stops working from gettting wet/muddy water in them but my reg pack has been fine the bearings are shot though.
New bearings have been ordered it does need new brushes too these are very short now after 12 years service!

Anyway would you also change the regulator which comes with new bushes for £20 odd quid or keep the reg thats in there and swap the brushes

Whichever is easier. I work on quads which have a separate voltage regulator, some new ones last a week, some quads still have the regulator put on in the 1990s when they were built. Just keep the spare one in case you need it.

I'd put the old one back and see if it all works when you reassemble it. It would be a bit of a bummer if you bought a new reg and then screwed the rotor up fitting new bearings. Then buy a new one as a standby if you want to.

well the bushes have to be soldered in or the regulator has to be soldered in either way, no point in putting the old one back the bushes have like 2mm left on them
