Alternative to crap shed

sini have a crap rotting wooden 6x4 ship lap shed. Haven't been in there for a while and it's now full of ivy, the floor is rotting (I suspect trapped water underneath) the roof is leaking and walls are soaked through.

So I am not a huge fan of welding in there now, I can't be bothered to clear it out or repair the damp and rotten bits so looking for alternatives. I have a patio at the top of the garden against the house and a fence so thinking of something to go there, mainly just to keep the rain and wind off as I'm not hugely bothered about being cold (spend most of the time working in the rain or cold anyway) so thinking of something like a simple frame with a roof and a wall on the short side.

I will try and draw a diagram of the garden layout later and post it so you can see what I'm working with.

Hopefully having a clear out of all the crap in the garden next week so should make more space too

keep in mind that you are aloud to go 2.5m high max if you are within 2m of a boundary at the rear of a property without planning permission.

Not going for anything g permanent as its not my house, and 2.5m is much higher than I will need. If I had a flat roof on what ever I get/make then 2m will be plenty as its only got to accommodate me.

Thinking along the lines of a wooden frame and marine ply roof, fence panel walk all with a coat or 3 of good fence paint

Look on the bright side, If you do any welding in there you won't have to worry about burning it down as it's too wet to catch fire

id build it in steel using roof panels on angle irons at least you can take it down and take it with you it just needs a frame being built

I was thinking of a steel lean to type job, bolted box section frame with a marine ply roof, and if I put it in the other corner there are 2 house walls (back and side) so would only need one sheet of marine ply to box it in and keep the wind out ( would leave the front 'open' with a roll down front if needed)

It hasn't got to be big as all my cutting can be done on the other bit of patio and if it's open front I can just position the bit I'm welding in there anyway.

Will need to clear the garden before I can measure up as there is a huge amount of crap in the way now but from memory it's around 8 foot x 5.5 foot

What about finding some 99p used garage up & over doors off eBay, Freecycle or wherever for the sides ?

Not a bad idea, the cheaper the better.

Have thought, to save in steel I could make an angle iron rectangle to screw ply into for the roof, weld tabs on to bolt into the 2 walls, put and upright on the free corner and then One in the middle of the longest side (it won't be in the way as there is a low wall up until that point anyway) so then it's just an 8x5 angle iron rectangle and 2x 7-8 foot lengths of 40mm box uprights.

Used box profile on a frame, wood or metal, if you want to be posh just use that corrogated see through plastic used for carports etc

I can get that plastic corrugated stuff real cheap and had forgotten about it until now, thanks

I could not go any lower and still fit in the old patio door.........

AH so if I read this correctly ... I have done the slope the right way as it's slopes to the fence. Had I built it high side by the fence it could have been an issue.

Off the top of my head and from what I remember the area to measure it will be 8ish foot long, 5 ish foot wide and around 8 foot tall

ive got 2 of them one in back garden one in front garden both come in handy on most occasions both are permanent buildings one is engineering brick and concrete block with apex roof the other is an ex garage changed into a shed also with apex roof both with a hangover over door entrance

Don't use steel sheet as it will suffer from condensation, especially the roof, I've got of those all metal shed and it's a nightmare. Ply or the multi layer plastic sheeting used in conservatory roofing would be better. I would prefer the plastic as it give you more light and insulation.

lol i forgot about that when mentioning but he did say its just getting a tarpoil cover on one so thought it didnt need it

ive just changed mine as well got sick of the drips last winter from the condensation so far no condensation even from the cold roof just felt below the roof much better and already half insulated and boarded inside
