i have with limited success tried it so see if it was up to the task of building an ali canoe but found it hard it seemed to not want to weld then all go in one lump with the sheet as well itsw been discussed a couple of time do a search for duraweld

There are several thread on the rods, you can search for them.

They work but are a bit tricky. I have made mufflers for chainsaw engines.

How thick is the manifold?

Just do a forum search for 'durafix easyweld' then.

Zinc solder would probably work fine for filling a non structural hole in a thin casting for instance, but its not anywhere near as strong as the casting itself, so I would guess a complete waste of time if you need the repair to be strong.

Why not get everything prepared, and take it along to someone with a TIG set, it doesnt sound a difficult job?

thanks folks, i had some rods lying around i`d bought years ago so tried them today. not a thing of great beauty but certainly did the job and cleaned up nicely as its inside an intake manifold and ive ported and polished it.would recommend them if your doing a non-structural repair,but follow the instructions and be patient.

We repaired a broken fairing bracket on a motorbike frame many years ago with the Lumiweld version and is stayed on fine.

would these work well on inlet manifolds? ive got a couple i want to splice together by welding alloy tube onto the plates. Or am i really needing a tig job done? only problem is i havent got a tig and id like to do the stuff myself you see...
