Allocating internet bandwidth?

I'm out in the sticks so very slow Internet at the best of times...
She is currently addicted to faceache which she views using the fb app on her android phone over the WiFi.
The router is an ee brightbox.

I don't want to block her off it completely and I'm happy for her to use it at full speed when I'm not in the house!!

But, if I'm trying to book a parcel for collection it's taking forever as she is busy watching cat videos or something.
It's also pretty annoying when I'm watching tv on catchup and she gets a notification that one of her mates has posted 122 photos of what she just had gor dinner and she wants to scroll through all of them leaving me watching buffering news...

I have had a look at the settings on the router as I was just thinking it would be easy to set my computer as the highest priority, the tv 2nd, then my phone, then her phone
But it doesn't seem quite that simple.

I have found something called traffic management that looks like it might do the trick but I'm not sure what exactly I set to low priority?
Is "applications" referring to apps used on a WiFi connected device or something else?
Or do I put the ip address of FB in or something?

Like I say, I don't want to actually block it but it would be nice to put it's Internet usage as the lowest priority of everything!

When I worked offshore we had the same issues: limited bandwidth for 40 guys all trying to do their thing. If you could persuade her to log into mobile facebook it would save bandwidth?

It apparently uses far less of the precious bytes than the normal face ache.

Or you could grow a pair and tell her to log the **** off it altogether?

There are many ways to address this but my first thought depends on the version of brightbox you have.

Some of these support 2.4Ghz Wifi and 5Ghz Wifi.
If the 5Ghz had a different password that was only on your phone, you could turn off the 2.4Ghz connection whilst being able to to show the internet working on your phone.

Must be your phone love, mine works ok, shall I take a look while you put the kettle on ?

Another option would be to give the devices you want to have priority a higher priority. I haven’t got this router but looking at the manuals online if on the screen you have shown create a new rule with MAC address as the option and add it as high priority with your TV or whatever’s MAC address it should then get a better share.

Just note phones tend to change their MAC address to reduce tracking, but this can be switched off on a Wi-Fi by Wi-Fi network.

Most routers will allow some sort of cut off for devices.
If they are android devices you can use google family-link to manage their devices and add usage schedules

I've never managed to get shaping to work, despite a fair amount of effort.

This was years ago though, and things may have improved.

I used to leave my gf in my flat if I had to go away for weekends. I'd share (well gift) my (in those days) DSL connection with someone who lived two doors along the street. My girlfriend would get upset with him sucking up all the bandwidth, until she gleefully announced that she had "foiled him". Which translated as a kit kat wrapper around the router antenna.

just to note here its actually you thats been greedy with watching the news and watching catch up tv
video takes the most bandwith up compared to pic's or scrolling pics on facebook

ive only provided you a way to slow the connection to devices at a set speed it will remain at this speed wether your in or wether your out it will be held at this constant speed

otherwise you will need to setup child settings where net is cut off at certain times

Ive had the row with the young adult already for bandwidth hogging

12 video pages open whilst watching a video all been refreshed by there servers with adverts soon takes up bandwidth

What's the mobile plan? You can disable her access to WiFi.

If the mobile plan is $10 per bit then that's not an option.

Without ours we get 2-3mb with it we get over 100mb.

I was going to suggest the same.
We are in a very remote area - almost no phone signal in the house - but an aerial under the eaves - just fixed it hanging out of a bedroom window - and we get 80mb. EE unlimited with a Huawei router.
