Anyone tried it?

Looks similar to durafix.

I bought something similar that claimed to be aluminium solder off banggood and I couldn't get it to work.

It could be worth locating the instructions for a more mainstream product (e.g. Lumiweld) and just checking you are following them exactly when using the BG stuff.

If you can be assured your technique is correct and it still does not work, then the filler material could reasonably be blamed.

Perhaps buy a stick of the good stuff and do a side-by-side test on the same material, with the same technique and same heat source. If the results differ in favour of the genuine one, again, you know the cheapie is at fault. If nothing happens to stick to the material you are repairing, it is the base material that is being difficult and nothing can be concluded about the filler material.

Project Farm on youtube tested these types of rods, there are scam products out there that simply don't work, if you need it to work probably best go with a name brand from somewhere it can be returned easily.

I have some of the hts2000/lumiweld and have successfully used to weld aluminium. But it is darned expensive for what it is.

The same technique doesn't work on the the ebay stuff I bought, it is more like an aluminium tig rod with a higher melting point and it doesn't flow nicely.

I meant that there's supposed to be flux in the rods.

Yes have some of those rods, likely the same as what you got from BG. Mine work but the melting point is only a hair lower than alu so quite difficult to successfully use, I have only done test peices.. They are mostly made of zinc, I believe.

Tig welding is a much more enjoyable option.

No ac tig so not an option.
