Alfa Remeo Mito 1.4 in limp mode

Our lass has a mito. Occasionally it goes into limp mode.
Its been doing it more often recently.

full service 8mths ago, 2k miles since then

any ideas what can be the problem.

The manufacturer.

Pull the codes from the ECU, if it went into limp mode it will have stored a code.

What model, petrol or diesel?
Any other symptoms?
Does it go out of limp mode after she stops or by itself.
Did you read the codes?

Multieuscan is a great tool for reading codes and fault finding on Fiat group cars

Its been lumpy at low rpm for a few weeks, felt like a misfire. Slugish as well, even at f/throttle.

Took the plugs out and they are oily on the threads with a heavy soot ring, electrode and strap were clean. That would suggest its over fuelling at low rpm, it only does short runs. Plugs [NGK] cleaned up and refitted. I also cleaned a small filter in the head that feeds oil to the multivalve assembly. Its a 10mm hex under the top cam cover at the back. These block up. It gad a little carbon debris, nothing to be concerned about.

error codes were
P0300 and P0301 both plug misfires.
P0657 is to do with a solenoid for oil pressure to the multivalve. I bet this is the fault its had all along. Possibly down to a bad loom plug connection near the oil filter.

So plugs and filter cleaned, codes cleared. She runs a good’n. Just need to look at the loom connection underneath.

I had mine computer diagnosed at a local garage, plugged into their reader, £45, fuel pressure problem. It was juddering a bit, then dropping into limp home, when I put my foot down hard. New fuel filter cured it.

I'm sure Alfa share a lot of componentry (and faults) with Fiat; more times than not on my mother's Stilo it's a stupid connection or corrosion issue rather than a genuine component failure.
That said, it has eaten a few coil packs over the ten years she's had it...

I'd get some new plugs if they were oiled up then a good thrashing for an hour.....

I’ll order new plugs and coil/s in a few days. I want to see what plugs look like after a few miles.

In my experience when coils fail, kaput, no more. Airflow meters are usual suspects - does it have one? And is the idle stepper working?

No fault codes, thats why Im leaving them in. See what they look like in a few days.
