I have the Lidl ones (6-32) and they are pretty good.Cant knock these for just over a quid each for the back of the van..every size from 6mm to 32mm. Not going to win a quality competition but will get you out of a pickle stuck at the side of the road

Not that new, the snap on spanners I bought in 1989 have the same size each end, as far as I know its always been this way with combination spanners.I have some combination spanners (ring/open-end) from either Aldi or Lidl, cannot remember which. Anyway, they are quite serviceable tools, but are the same size at each end. When the nut and bolt are both the same size, you need two sets of these spanners. Seems totally crazy, and I never met anything like it before. Is this the new norm?

Nor me. I'm wondering if it might actually be a good idea.I’ve never seen a set of combination spanner’s with different sizes on either end![]()
There's a couple of places make spanners like you describe.Nor me. I'm wondering if it might actually be a good idea.
You can only use one end of the spanner.
And you would have the same size head available, if you want to tighten a pair of locknuts for example.

Might make more sense to do them in pairs, 10mm ring/11mm open then a 11mm ring and 10mm open, that way you don't end up with a silly big one. Why stop at 17mm either, I've got combi spanners up to 50mm, might look a bit goofy with an 8mm ring on one end.Nor me. I'm wondering if it might actually be a good idea.

Agreed, but you certainly don’t always need two ring spanners - a ring spanner on the nut and an open-ender on the bolt are often sufficient. When dealing with a set screw, or a nut on a projecting stud, only one spanner in required. And fewer spanners are needed if each one has ends of different sizes. You need 2 spanners to undo most nut and bolts irrespective of their size.
I think my head would fall off trying to use them. I just carry a cheap set of spanners and an adjustable or socket setThere's a couple of places make spanners like you describe.
This exactly ^^ I used to spend most of my life flying around the world with a set of tools and a set of combo spanners (popular sizes eg 10, 13,17,19 duplicated with ratchet spanners)and socket set/adjustable spanner never failed me!I think my head would fall off trying to use them.
