Aldi offer this coming Thursday

Hi there,
There is lots of welding equipment coming to aldi in Ireland this Thursday.

I'll get the gaunlets, apron and clamp set. I doubt the clamps are the best but they could come in very handy. I'd say the apron and gauntlets are good quality.

My question is regarding the mig wire though. http://aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/58_5960.htm

Is it worthwhile getting this wire for a portamig 185. I know it will only go up to 130 amps so obviously I would not be able to use this at anywhere near the full power of the welder but for lower amp jobs?

No, the Portamig won't run gas-less wire. They are mini-spools anyway, so wouldn't fit the spool holder.

I might mosey on down for the apron & gauntlets, and take a gander at the welding clamps while im there. I have been pondering a leather apron for some time now, after seeing my fireproof overalls burned through a few times. Cheers for the heads up!

Remember that's an Irish page I pointed you to. Don't know if they run the UK ones in tandem although it would seem logical enough from a logistical pov.

trying to find out if the MiG welder they are selling would be good enough to make a basic box iron gate .maybe 2 - 4 mm thick box iron . gate length would be 6 ft long , 3 ft high .a drive entrance gate , nothing to fancy . hope this is on topic .never welded before but would love to give it a go . very low funds hence aldi looks good to me and it looks like he is welding a gate in the picture . any ideas would help .

Dingo,don't forget the welder they have coming in is gasless only,so you will be limited,but having said that it should be ok for what you want to do,the wire they are also getting is made by wolf tools,i have used it before and it is pretty decent wire and at £9-99 for 2 rolls seems like a bargain.

Dingo , iwouldnt waste your money if i were you , i made the mistake of buying a powercraft no gas mig last year . i just about managed to run a couple of rolls of wire through it . awfull wire feed very frustrating to use
No doubt there will be a load of them on ebay soon

Aldi mig

I've been saving a couple of quid for a while waiting for one of the cheapy s/markets to have a welder offer, i was after a mig. I was on the precipice of purchasing the Aldi gasless this Thursday, then spotted a nearly new CEBORA gas pocket mig for the same price up for sale locally, my choice was made, i'll get some of the other stuff, clamps and maybe apron etc, great site, keep it up,
