Aldi electric files

I see that Aldi have the electric files in their tool offers as from tomorrow, but does anyone know whether they take standard belts please. they always look a useful tool, but if they need specific belts, not so handy. 3year guarantee sounds good as well

455 mm belts i think, i had to buy some and they were bout 8 qiud for 20 belts 120 grit off ebay and they seem to last longer than the ones you get with the power file itself

I bought the Black and Decker version of this for £40 and have to say it has been great, despite mixed reviews on here. Just the job for grinding down welds and removing paint and rust quickly. The belts that came with it wear quickly, but the zirconia ones (from ebay seller Johnt1102, who posts on here) are better. I hesitated to buy one, but it has been one of the best tools I have purchased. I used it for cleaning out rust from the sills on my resto when nothing else would reach.

Thanks for that, it sounds a useful tool, I reckon I'll get one tomorrow. also a friend of mine has the reciprocating saw, also on offer & says that's good too. Looks like I'm going to be spending some money then.

you can use the big belt sander belts cut dowm to fit the finger sanders...i do

I've seen people advertising the belts for B&D powerfiles fitting the Aldi Electric Files and last time they were on sale I nearly bought one, but it didn't say on the box what size the belts are. I'll be getting and Aldi one tomorrow as the B&D ones last me less than 18 months.

for B&D powerfiles I haven't bought the right sized belts for years I currently use 457 x 76mm belt sander belts and cut through with a knife from the reverse (fabric) side on the joint and then just rip it along its length to make narrower belts.

Thanks for that, I have a small linisher & grinder & I think it uses 457x50 belts so I should be able to cut those down

I've just bought replacement belts for my aldi finger file, 13x457mm. Curiously, no-one seems to do the 8mm belts, unless the arm is shorter...aha! I must dig it out and see, it's very useful for getting into tight places.

I have two of the Ferm 400w files, and I use them daily in my workshop. The Aldi power files are Identical and at least 25% cheaper if not more. I get through about 200 X P36 13 X 457 belts each year and I buy mine along with most of my other abrasives and discs from Abtec http://www.abtec4abrasives.com/13mm-x-457mm-zirconia-abrasive-sanding-belt-new-low-price-1901-p.asp I shall be off around Aldi in the morning to buy two more power files for the workshop, because Ferm and Servtool are no longer supporting them with spare parts...... I wear out 2 or 3 sets of the belt adjusting plungers a year............. it is the only weak part on the tool. I got one this morning and they appear to be a copy of the B & D ones, shown compared to a very old one I'm currently using. the B&D ones use rollers that have hard rubber and on the sanding end do wear over time and bronze bearings. the aldi ones have metal rollers and are fitted with ball bearings. aslo the aldi ones dont have a latching power switch, but the B&D one does.

Been to Aldi myself this morning, bought one, also bought the saw & some spare blades.should save some time & effort.

I think the angled probe might clinch the deal for me. I'm sure it would make it far easier to reach into the corners of an inner sill when working on your back under a car.
