Friend has an old slow speed Alco 2000 I think it has let out the magic smoke he has tried a couple of new machines & finds them lacking the ond one even after 20 years + cut quieter & better it had the slow speed gear & a nylon roller, all the newer ones seem to run faster & have an alloy plate to cut against is there an Alcoa type still made, I used it a few times it was a beast.

The only small shredder we have is a petrol timberwolf, thats well made with with conventional blades and anvil. 13HP and will take just about anything you stuff into it. We stick it on our work boat to clear vegetation on a small island for nesting birds.

It will take wood up to 3" and sopping wet vegetation without clogging.

Thanks @8ob, your Timberwolf is a bit overkill the Alco is\was a top end garden shredder, @stuvy there are no blades in this one it is a 4\6 inch wide straight cut gear that presses on a nylon roller motor has a gearbox so the gear runs at about 100 RPM I would think it is a beast, went through 40 mm no trouble for 20+ years, the 2 newer ones he tried are noisier & don't cut nearly as well.
In all the tine he had the old one a switch & a fettle of the gear\ cutter edge to take of a bit of damage it ate a piece of wood with some large nails

I’d be pulling the motor out and finding a new one if that’s the case mate

Are Northern tool still on the go, I think they are American owned, they sold a lot of American gear no one else sold in the UK.I bought some gear off them, always got a large flyer from them every few months. Not had one for a long time.

@stuvy he looked for motor over 150 & they were not sure is was the same unit it has no make on it & fitts in the plastic\nylon case so if it is wrong they say no return old stock
