Alalkathene pipe for airline?

Hello, tried googling this but couldn't find anything. I'm having as big sort out/ move around in the workshop and i'm finally sorting out a proper air line. I need about 25m of pipe around the walls to give plenty of drop points. The question is can i get away with 20/25 or 32mm alakathene pipe and Philmac fittings to save having to do it all in 3/4 galv? I don't have a pipe threader so i'll be welding 1/2 barrel nippels on to the pipe if i have to use steel which isn't ideal! Any one used blue pipe for this before? Any other ideas?

Yes my 100psi air supply to different points in the workshop is through blue alkathene pipe about 25mm dia inside, works perfect only you cant go round tight corners as it dos'nt bend very easily without kinking. Thing that surprised me was the cost of the brass joins and end fittings I had to buy from plumbers shop, pricey. Dunno what Philmac fittings are, please let me know.

I've got plenty of blue pipe and a few fittings, plus i can get more very easily otherwise i'd use copper after seeing how well you seem to get on with it!


My compressor puts out 10 bar so alkathene should be fine as long as the fittings seal properly. The Philmac fittings are about the best type of water fittng so should be ok for air. I might have a try tomorrow with what i've got before i buy any more fittings!
