hi, anyone knows anything about this company gas?
they made a show in my place and give some brochure.

they claim to have superior then argon for TIG with no fume nor smell
and claim its a mixture but wont tell me whats % of hydrogen being mixed in it.

the gas cost cheaper then MOX/BOC but a bit more then BIG.

other claim include 30% faster welding speed inducing 18% less cost (labor)

I open an account with them but havent pay anything yet.
hope i can get an idea on what this actually is before really buying from them.

Also i only weld very thin material 0.8mm -3mm max with 90% being 1.0mm 304 stainless

If you think about it how can the gas increase welding speed. If you are welding a 6mm fillet you need a certain amount of wire no matter what gas you use. The gas cannot create more steel so where can these increases come from. The only explanation is that you can use higher current (to melt more steel). To do that you need the equipment capable of giving you the higher current and the wire feeder to cope with the higher speed.
What happens when you increase current. Increased deposition rate, increased penetration and increased heat. These can be beneficial but they can cause problems.

I think their claims could be correct providing your other circumstances fit the bill.

Just changing the gas wont increase the speed.

I would expect it to cause you problems on your thin stainless

I think what they are getting at is, if when you are TIG welding stainless or ally and you change from argon to a gas with either H2 or He in it without dropping your amps you are going to get a much hotter weld pool which will allow you to weld much faster, twice as fast in some cases, and no, this isn't sales bull it is a fact. Of course you will need to feed more filler wire to ensure the correct weld is deposited

Improvements like this are only achievable on TIG, and I am in total agreement with you Al in that such increases are hard to achieve when welding stainless below 3mm manually

Actually it was the MIG bit I read but then realised that the question was aimed at TIG. By then I had written all that ****e so I left it.

Hi, yes the question was for TIG,

i notice when they test weld, they used 104 amp and when i goes to my shop i had to use 160 amp to get same speed on same 3mm stainless steel flat bar.

so basically argon + hydrogen mixture is not worth for thin material then since it run hotter there sure will be more instances to blow holes... or is it possible for me to use lower amp then i normally would ? and still get better weld?

For thin material you can turn the heat down quite considerebly which will reduce your heat input which will reduce surface oxidation and distortion.

To be honest each application is different, rather than trying to get people on a forum to make your mind up for you get the gas supplier to give you a demonstration cylinder and try it on the actual job.

If they are not willing to let you have a cylinder to trial I would take my business elsewhere.

True its not much to fork out £50 for 2 bottle and test them out, yet learning from others experience will sure save me and my friends lots of time and effort.
