Air grinder & Saw

Just wondering if anyone has got those cheap Air Grinders 3" and one of those Air Saws. There all about the same and cost about £15 each.

Was thinking of them just for cutting sheet steel of around 0.8mm. Are they any good or a compleate waste of time?

Now for my compressor, erm, well, all I know its a Sealy 25L tank, could be somthing like a 2-3hp but hounestly havent got a clue

All I use my compressor for at the moment is for an air line, blowing swaff/cleaning and to pump tyres up. Little waste realy and would be nice to use it more.

Ive been using some £12.99 aldi air shears recently ....easy to use ,easy to cut straight lines ,great for the price .....like these but way cheaper.....the 1/4" swarf is annoying though ...

if you are on about the aldi/wolf/clarke ones, cheeps as chips but i've done several jobs with them. 3" cutoff is fine for body work. air saw cut through the mondeo usd wishbone bolts no bother 12mm of tensile steel. saw is no good on sheet though, reciprocating action only works against something like a bolt, sheet just sticks to the blade. 3" cut off is good on sheet though. but any thicker and you'd be better off with an angle grinder. they do tend to use alot of air though.

only ever used tools on me old 200l comp. the tools do drain from 130-100psi in a short time at a 90psi reg pressure/ with a 25l tan you'll be running loads. my pump's a bit tired and struggles without a wee breather'

impact wrench is a must though.

i have the 3" disc cutter as well .little aldi compressor ran out of steam a bit quick ,but was on a long pipe ......sheet cutter.......is another favoured tool although someone was saying spares may not be supported by clarke ....sealey make same style........pain supporting big sheets though

Nice one, Gav going back to the sheet cutter in your link, have you got one, are the roller cutters better than normal Guilitines (dam hope I spelt that right)

Will be for smaller sheet work, as in upto 12", or as in cutting flat cones out of sheet steel

Ive got a number of the Aldi Best tools. I have no problems with them and for the price if they last a year I am happy. The only air tool I have actually spent on is my variable speed 3" paint buffer. That was £120...

The roller cutters are great as they cut radius' easily....if you want straight lines though i prefer longer bladed shears ,at home for car work i use a roller cutter at work a 8" shear....i have been impressed with the air shears on 1mm sheet and would suggest you try them first at £12-15 ,my 3" cutting disc rarely gets used,still handy but not used ......should mention the roller cutters leave a straight knurl on one side of the cut ,not a problem for car work which is filled ,but may be a pain for box work or exhausts ....will post some pics if you want?

My Aldi 3" cut off is coming home from work (to be replaced by the Clarke), cut through 1 /1/2" HGV diesel injector no problem, the Clarke has problems with 1mm bodywork. Variable quality on the cheap stuff I'm afraid, but we do have one of the little Aldi pistol-grip drills in the hands of Keith the Hammer at work cleaning cylinder heads with various sizes of wire brushes on an almost full-time basis..noisier than most, but 3 months in it's still going strong, not bad for £5.99 last of line sell-off. Before you think I'm an Aldi apologist, have had an air wrench that was total sh*te. As Dune rightly points out, if you rely on it - get the best.

I don't generally like ''cheapo'' tools but like gavuk, I have a set of aldi shears & I find them gr8 yhe first thing I did when I got them [apart from chucking the airline connector & fitting a pcl] was to give the blades the''file test'' just a rub across the tops & the file just slid across so they are hardened, I also bought a drill to compliment my ''cp'' drill 'cos it had reverse & mine hasn't its also good for the money allbeit a little noisy,one of the best things about this forum is all the info we get[& give] about equipment, it really helps us to choosing gear.
