Air-fed mask..

So I'm a t**t and have been spraying the odd bit of 2k with a 3m cartridge mask. Some people seem to think it's fine and yeah I'm still alive but I can't help thinking how p****d off I would be.. if I were dead.

I want to buy an air fed setup but I'm looking for a cost effective solution. I know people are gonna say about my lungs being priceless and it's my health etc but seriously I know this and I'm looking for the best I can get at the lowest price.

The price seems good.. But I'm to understand I need some filters to get rid of the crap coming out the compressor?

My questions are.. What are them masks like? What else do I need?

There's always the option of a bog standard fresh air mask too, save taking anything from the compressor. Pretty much the same principle as those, but with a hose leading straight to an outside air intake. This type:

That seller seems to have one for sale pretty much constantly. Either that or they run their listings for yonks.

There is just NFW I would use a freshair mask for 2k. You'd want the intake miles away to get clean air for one thing. The other is that a positive pressure mask is always going to keep the fog/fumes out.

As well as mask, you really want:
comp -> reg/water trap -> multi-stage filters -> mask

The first reg/filter extends the life of the triple-pack filters. I got one with a small filter size (either 10 or 5 micron I cant recall). Many are 50micron.
Mask usually has a carbon filter of it's own, but without the triple pack I'd think it'd last a very short time.

Mask will use a lot of air, I ended up buying another 3hp comp. Had a smaller tank 2.5 but it was being thrashed to death.

I have listed on Ebay the same mask as the first you mentioned in your posting.Its never been used and its not gonna be £148 at the end(nice if it did).I use the disposable masks that are claimed to be OK for 2k.The prospect of another compressor with the associated extra noise put me right off(mainly because of my moaning t**t of a neighbour!).

So I put a water trap etc coming out of the compressor that's cool I already have one of them, then a 3 stage filter so gradually decrease the contaminates from the compressed air.. has anyone got a recommendation for this as the ones I'm finding are megabucks! Well more than the masks..

Yes I think the price is the killer(if you'll pardon the pun).

I think the Kestrel one at spraygunsdirect is one of the cheapest, but it was still about £160 or something inc VAT, 3-stage job going from 5 micron down to .01 micron
Seem to remember it's a re-boxed Italian make, maybe it's out there for less.

If your trap is like 50micron and you don't do much, it should be OK vs the need to replace filters in the triple-pack. I've got copper lines & drop legs that take out most of the water before it hits the first reg/trap, the better the air that hits the triple-pack, the longer the filters will last.

Basically I have put down epoxy primer where needs be and also primed the engine bay in my car. I'm going to take the car into my dads work and spray it in the booth but I want to do the interior and engine bay color at home so I can start putting the front end back together.

Not a great deal of spraying I should think, probably do the bay and insides in a day.. Your saying that I could get by with a 50micron filter? This would be one of the three filters that makes up the multi filter systems?

I mean the reg/trap (before the triple-pack), they have different filter sizes. Lots are pretty big e.g. 50 micron, but you can get them smaller - I went for a smaller size as I spray pretty much every week, to make the 3-pack filters last better. With that amount I'd save the ££s and use what you've got though.

Hmmm.. Yeah cool cheers mate that's sound. I seen brightspark had added some sort of DIY filter somewhere along his line so I might see what he did with that exactly as well.
