Air dryers

So as per my post here, I'm hoping for a 50A plasma cutter for xmas.

Do I need an air dryer? If so, can you recommend one that won't blow the savings that santa brought?

with a couple of cheap filter/regualtors, the first one removes most of the water (may not be necessary if you have a dryish air supply), the second on was just to remove fragments of beads. if I used a fine mesh on the copper tube instead of slots I think I could have got away without the second filter(but I still needed a regulator)

air goes in on in the left, thought the beads, and up a tube (15mm copper pipe) stuck into the top and goes almost to the bottom of the housing, and out of the right. Ive only ever got blue crystals (with water in them at the top) this was just shaken up to show it works.

For plasma it's not essential, I've only ever used them on flux recirculating systems where welding flux cannot have any moisture in with it.

I don't use one with mine. Now that I have full breathing air filtration, I may just run it via that in future, but as long as you are not spitting water into it, I don't think there is much to worry about. A simple water trap on the input should suffice.

Cool - thanks guys. This is the bag-o-goodies that comes with the cutter; does that look like a water trap in the middle?

yep your best bet is have a waterseperator on your airtank as well .decent bore hose and fairly short and dont have it coiled up otherwise it retains water

Have a look at drop out water filters. I have one fitted to airlines after the storage tanks and I never get a single drop of water through. Every airpoint has a filter outlet as well and I have never seen a single drop of moisture get through to these.

This looks interesting, did you have to get NPT to BSP adaptors for the filter bowl fittings?

thats not the actual one I used, but very similar,the one I use had the same threads as 1/4" airline fittings
