air compressor piston ring repair

i just got given an air compressor and have been repairing it but the rings are shot my question is what size ring do i need for a 50mm cylinder bore i know there is meant to be a gap in the ring and im supposed to measure it with a feeler gauge but the ones on ebay are to the nearest mm so i don't think it needs to be so critical thanks in advance

You need the depth and width of the groove in the piston and the size of the bore. You can push the ring square down the bore with the piston top to measure the gap then file the ring ends to what is necessary.

so if i get some rings and file them down to match the ring end of the piston ring i got left will thet be fine? and as for nearest mm its the internal diameter of the rings so i don't know if thats compressed in the cylinder or not cuz that would be quite a different measurment i think just get a bigger one and grind them down to match?

Or you could take the head and piston to a engine reconditioner and ask them to match you a ring

If the rings are worn the bore is almost certainly worn too, have a measure up.
