Dunno. I can't see that the presence or absence of these wall ties would much affect the value of the property.

You're getting more or less sympathetic, but largely practical, responses from people who are basically unsympathetic (on this matter). You can only do what you can, bearing in mind that these fittings were probably made from wrought iron or cast iron in the first place.

I think this is going to be your major problem 5yrs down the line. I assume (apologies if not) you've made yours out of stock steel bar, without regular maintainance, ordinary steel has the potential to look quite poor in a few short years.

I saved a bunch of wrought iron door furniture from a barn back along. It's been through a fire to remove the doors but I'll take a picture of some bits to give an idea of the shape things were thumped into if it helps. Loosing that stock, uniform rectanfle profile will help loads

If you set up an electrolysis tank and use your wall tie as the sacrificial electrode it will age it nicely over a few days.

Google 'cleaning steel with electrolysis' for the method.

Update on the “S” brackets for my friend house.

I got some old rusted metal bars from my local scrap yard. Wozzaaah will know the yard in his home town. It had a good fire.

I cleaned them with citric acid, welded them up and used soot and wax to stain them black.

They looked good.

Sadly, a local person has complained to the local planning office and we have to take them down.

The complaint is along the lines of:

The house is rebuilt ( wrong ) and the use of none functional parts ( original parts did something, holding the wall up) is in contrary to the local planning rules and regulations.

So, the local council planning officer is due to make a visit and we wait a rulling.
