AGA 200 Mig Welder

Just aquired an AGA 200 Mig welder

This ia a 3 phase machine which even compared to my Portamig 215 welds beautifully

Only problem is the large nut which reatains the wire spool is missing so the wire tends to overrun slightly when you stop welding

Have tried the nut from my Portamig which is the same diameter but the thread is slightly to course. the AGA has a finer thread

Any help, comments or words of wisdom from the forum would be much aoppreciated

Is the reel not laid flat on it then, loaded from the top.... Tension the spindle up a little, and make sure you locate the reel on the peg.... shouldn't reallly need a nut if its like that.....

You are exactly correct, reel loaded from the top

Will try tensioning the spindle but without the nut there is still quite a bit of backlash in the reel, where the reel fits on the locating peg it's a very poor fit

A little shouldn't hurt really.
I cant remember how the tensioner is adjusted on them now, probably just a spring, with a nut and washer to adjust it.
