Reducing water in a DIY compressed air supply

I'm glad I read about the DIY compressors in the Paint instruction page,was going to buy a cheap compressor and this has stopped me buying one.

Thanks for the info on this.

Now then....how well will made up paint in aerosols be in spraying small plastic panels? these panels are on my bike but I read years ago that the better the PSI on the compressor the better the finish.

I'm after a high gloss finish so will aerosol spraying do the job?

You just need a water trap/regulator as well as a compressor to cure the water problem with any compressor. Aerosols will do the job if you get the colour mixed at a good supplier and put into aerosols with the fan nozzle, not the blob pattern you get from cheap ones. My daughter painted her car doors with aerosols and they came out quite well.

I thought they were going to be expensive,so had a look at the ones in Toolstation last night,theres a filter reg for £20 and a filter reg+Lubricator for £40.

But the BSP is only 1/4"

I bought a Silverline water trap & reg of ebay for about £15 delivered, did the job for me.

Well thats ok,but Tooly delivers the goods free with orders over £10 so its still not too bad,and the beauty is if it goes faulty I will not have to pay a return carriage to an ebay seller as the toolstation is local.

Aldi occasionally do the regulator/water trap/lubricator setups for around £20, and gun wise, this one is the one which I'm planning on getting, (for touch up and light use), due to recommendations from other members on here:

Nice gun but it only holds 100ml,I'm looking for at least 240ml+,its ok for small work.

I have two of those (paid less though, one was £15 the other £18 delivered). They're great for bike panels, as are mini-guns generally, I've just painted a chop fuel tank, large mudguard, oil tank and several engine & trans covers with 'em. Excellent quality for the price - also did pearl & candy with them. I did have to top them up now & then but it's no hardship.

Its a brand name,Chipper....if you have a look at the RDG tools one and the ebay one the name embossed into the metal are the same.

Stripped the Einhell down,seems the brushes are needing replacing but there's a smell of burning,prolly the motor? whats the consequences of putting another motor in? I have a new brushless motor in the shed but what about RPM,will that knacker the compressor?

I know they're the same, but the cups on the ones sold on ebay are different to the RDG one, having anti-spill rings, and they're cheaper

They also do a larger version in the mini, no idea if it's any cop though. Dpending what yr after it's good to have mini and fullsize guns; bigger is good for say large panels with pearls or metallics etc. But for straight colours a mini will do such panels no worries.

You won't fit a 600cc pot onto a mini. But as I said, it's no problem having 100 or 125cc pots.

Bought the gun from RGD tools,it came to £20.40 thats inclusive of vat and P&P as their mainland P&P is free up to a certain weight.

Damn,the sodden cup is 100ml not 200ml as stated on RDG website....gotta send it back now. arrrrrgh!

I got the metal cup version and its not screwable cap and you couldn't put the gun down on a flat surface in a hurry as the lid will fall off and paint everywhere.

More arrrrrgh!
