Advise

Hi, I am looking to become a welder and would like some advise on how to get into the industry! I'm 21 and don't have many qualifications or experience but have a keen interest in Pipe Welding (job prospects seem to be better), if i were to go into Pipe Welding, which process of Welding would i be better off learning at a local college/training centre? or could i just take a general course which covers every process of welding like ARC, TIG/MIG, MMA etc... If so which course would be best suited? I am also interested in securing an apprenticeship if possible, what would be the best way of securing an apprenticeship with a local company? i write letters etc but never seem to get anything back, is this the route to go down or should i change tact? Any advise given would be much appreciated!

A lot of apprenticeships are setup via colleges as companies often approach them,
The company i work for took on two electrical apprentices around a year back and both were sourced from the local college while they were on college courses.

Might be an idea to add on here roughly what part of the country you're in as somebody may know of an opening near you as your location only shows England?

Thanks for the advise so far everyone, it should prove helpful in the long run! I've spoken to various different people regarding the trade but was keen to speak to people who are actually in the industry, hence why i joined the forum, that and to gain a better understanding of welding in general!

I live in Bristol, South West and there doesn't seem to be much about at the minute, but I'll keep trying and hopefully something comes up!
