advise on a suitable welding mask

I've just bought a welder and it came with a cheapy free carry mask, don't really want to exceed the 50 pounds mark. what do you recommend for the best quality?

I did not buy that mask but used that company on ebay. I ordered the mask one morning and it arived the next.

I got a nice mask of "Weldequip" (forum user on here) which is really good, delivered very quick. Send him a message and he'll give you a price.
I got a cheap ebay one which was crap!!!!

yep, order a parweld one from weldequip , there about £50 and there brilliant, everyone who has one on here will recomend one, and get some spare clear covers aswell, theyll make a world of difference when the old ones are dirty

He also sells one called a SifLite, I bought one a few weeks ago. A few pounds more than the Parweld but a very nice mask.

The reaction time on that ebay one is 1/1000 of a second, the parweld is 4/10000 of a second and the SifLite if I can remember correctly is 1/10000 of a second! Both of them blow that ebay one out of the water.

Had a butchers at them Parweld lids and ive got to say they look real cheap.....Ive got a SIP one but i think its knackered, keep getin flashed but then i'm probly only on about 30/40 amps.......
I like the look of the ESAB ones, anyone got one they want to give a quick review/prices?

Hello engybenjy - I use an Esab Eye Tech II. I haven't used any other A/D lid so I can only tell you that; It's very comfortable, stays in place (up or down), light weight, good sized viewing lens (green), reaction time is good, has sensitivity control, shades 5-13, button to switch off shading for grinding (don't use it), solar/arc powered. I throw it about now and again and it hasn't broken yet. 150 ish GBP. Have 3 spare covers for it - had it a year and still on the original one.

I always wear it with a "weldas" cap and can recommend them.

...I still have an "old faithful" backup helmet btw. Just in case.

Esab EyeTech 2 for me as well but mines the cheaper 9-13 model

Does everyhthing I need and is far better that the Silverline one thats now cluttering up a shelf somewhere

Another vote for the Esab eyetech 2 here , picked up a new one on ebay £115 ,so there are bargains about if your lucky!
