Hi Guys

Joined this forum after reading a post on my landy forum that recommended it!

I'm completly new to welding and wanted some advice on what I need, I will be (hopefully) doing some basics on my land rover but mainly I wanted to build a body for my flat bed trailer..

similar to this..

so that I can mount my roof tent then go off roading of leave in it situe when camping..

I'm not sure where to start really...what tools would I need and what size/type steel would be best to use?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
A trailer as in the picture would probably have 50mm box section chassis and 50mm angle for the frame, although the axle, if you are using suspension units would be better out of 75mm box.

Gusset plates in each corner will strengthen as well and they don't need to be heavy, 5mm plate 100mm would be enough...in the shape of a triangle.

Tools would be an angle grinder with cutting and grinding dics, a stick welder is the cheapest for that task, but if you intend to work on thin stuff in the future a stick welder is not really ideal for that, depends how much you want to invest.

Sorry..just realised you already have the trailer... the angle would be suitable for the framework, then infill with aluminium, good exterior ply or if you are a millionaire ...marine ply
