Hi, not been on here in a long time. Just got a couple of queries. I have a powder coated piece that has clearly been made by some child in China without a clue on how to weld.
Good thing is the parts do not need seam welded, just tacked in place as they are not structural, bad thing is that they couldn't even manage to tack the bits on properly and 3-4 of the tacks around the item are broken.
Not a big issue, but I would like to sort it out. I have a Clarke 151TN welder which I have not used in a long time, and only used for exhausts and the likes with thicker steel.
What I am trying to weld is mild steel, 1.5-ish mm thick and has been powder coated white. I have 0.8mm mild steel & stainless steel welding wire as well as disposable bottles of pure CO2 & Argon/CO2 mix for shielding gas.
For my machine and for this type of steel what setting do you guys recommend (has settings from 1-3, each with a "min"/"max" setting) and what wire speed should I use (settings 1-10)?
Also, what gas do you recommend?
I am going to use the dremel to grind back a little bit of powder coat in the area tonight (too small to use a grinder), and all I want to do is re-tack back in place, nothing structural, but I would like my welds to fair better than those done by the kid who made it.
Any advice welcome.
