Does anyone use an angle grinder to shape/sharpen hss tool bits
ive seen angle grinder used for sharpening drill bits and tungsten’s so don’t see why not

I use an angle grinder to remove the bulk, then sharpen on a belt sander (one of those Aldi ones) - the tilting table makes it easier for me to hold consistent angles.
If it's for something 'special', I'll hone the edge with a little diamond pad.
If it's just for general turning, I use inserts - no hassle
