Advice on compressed air mist coolant, please.

What is the coolant/liquid used in mist coolant systems for cnc/milling/turning, can you used soluble oil or is it neat cutting oil?

I've just ordered a cheap mist coolant head unit to try out.

I asked about this on here before.... and everyone said avoid it like the plague - the mist/oil/whatever can end up in your lungs very easily :-o

I presume that would depend on the air pressure/flow and the amount of coolant allowed out of the nozzle.

I'd hate to think of the amount of hours I've spend blowing degreaser/petrol/thinners off of parts that I've just washed to rebuild commercial vehicle engines and gearboxes, over the last 45years......

Plus the 35 years I smoked........

From what I've seen the key is to have a fine spray but not quite a mist so it doesn't end up in the air so much.

It's your choice but oil mist is a known cause of cancer and liquid pump systems are cheap, arceuro trade have one for £160.

Really not a good way to apply coolant.

Neat oil is probably carcinogenic

And anything water mixed is highly capable of causing occupational asthma.

Applying either types with a comp air system will create an invisible aerosol that will stay suspended in the air for a long time thus significantly increasing potential exposure and consequences of ill health.

My advice is to find an alternative application system
