I need to make a one use body spreader similar to the 10 tonne hydraulic kits you can get. I have plenty of box section & was thinking that a large bolt could provide to expansion pressure. Only need 20mm. So the question is what size / thread will provide the needed pressure? How much pressure you all shout? I have no idea lol. Need to spread the rear chassis rails on an Astra 2012 hatchback. I could use the hydraulics from the tractor or digger but was thinking they might be a bit too forcefull. I also have a hydraulic lug crimper that could do it if I could mount it in the end of the tube.

How about a bottle jack on its side. There not meant to work horizontally but if you keep the pump at the bottom it will easily give you 20mm

A length of wood cut to size and a bottle jack will work.
Been playing with the lug crimper & some box section. Working well but slow progress as it springs back 8mm+ each time & I only have 10mm of usable travel. Been adding 2" square washers to a bolt one end to increase the length by 1 to 2mm each time. So far I have got it to 10mm so still 10mm to go. The box section is paying the price so binned it for the day & will continue in the morning either with a new length of box or I have the insides of a PTO shaft that might just be big enough for the handle of the crimper to fit inside.
Re the jacks, as its a 880mm gap I am aiming for keeping it straight would be the issue. The crimper handle is also paying the price (its what is keeping the box & the crimper inline) but I can soon fix that with a weld around it.

Hi, the trick is you push the legs out as far the tool will go, as you have been doing, whilst pushing you watch where the creases are and their movement. then when it's loaded up you tap those places with a hammer and they should stay set when you release the pressure. re adjust and try again if it's not enough. It is a bit of a black art but have patience.
