My bike is a slightly less than 19 inches centre to top and I am 5'11".
I just bought a similar bike with a 20.25 inch frame and It feels like it's lacking in plumb clearance. I bought the bike figuring an inch or so less clearance wasn't going to be a problem, I looked down at the cross bar and thought, TO CLOSE. Maybe I should put pipe lagging on the cross bar.
I was given an 18inch Kona frame and the only way it's 18inches is if it's measured from the top of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube.
Seen this chunko, I guess it's something to do with the oilympics.

Dabbled in wheel building years ago, spent hours at it then paid to get it trued up properly.
I figure wheels do a hell of a job, my commute is ten miles of wheel hell, tiny rural lanes, potholes, sandstone grit, attack bunnies and surface water.
For the cost of buying them made by a pro compared to time it would take me to completely balls it up it is a no brainer to buy them in.
The sculpture? dont like it too fat and cartoonish, nice old Marin though, Bolinas Ridge or Bear Valley. (how tragic is that?)

The next roundabout has a better sculpture.

Ive always gone Giant, whom by the way make many frames for other companies like Marin etc.

I upgraded the mechs to XTR, Hope Hubs, Hope Headset, Hope Mono M4 Brakes.
Bloody expensive bearings all round, enduromax.
Mega Chunky Sun double wide rims.
Shead loads of other things.
We used to quarry drop with them and Ive bent a few good rims in the past.
Wheel rebuilding/building is easy but Hope do ready built cheap enough

Did anyone see a program in the week called "Be Your Own Boss" ? Couple of lads started a bike business called 'Mango' bikes. The idea is you customise a basic bike by selecting colours for the various parts from a range of colours on screen, frame, wheels, tyres, etc and order it like that !! I quite fancy one in Gulf Racing colours, blue and orange, although I can't decide on Orange frame and blue bits or the other way around !
£300 all in, inc carriage ! The bike is very basic with single gear, either fixed or freewheel.

hopefully itl be almost as nice as burfs as his bike looks superb!
As for mango bikes, be prepared to see a certain chain shop offering budget bikes for cheaper money with more options, i know this for sure as my mate works for one of them

Single speed bike=stupid idea.
Gears were invented for a reason, to make it easier for us to pull our carcasses up hills.
I know a bunch of single speeders, when I have been offroading with them they are pushing up hill and spending ages fixing their bikes after the downhill bits.
Also a stupid idea on the road unless you live in Holland.
My mate BMart recently had an amazing idea, for his 5 mile Dorset commute; he has had the idea of fitting gears to his bike. To make it better on the climbs and give him less gyp from his aging back. Great idea. Revolutionary even.
The bike is the one he single speeded a few years ago.
I rest my case.

I hear what you say but their concept is the bike as a fashion accessory and as minimal as possible, so no messy gear change cables.
I think they see it as a bit of a pose machine, a personal fashion statement around town, mainly in London I reckon where it's mainly flat in the main pose area's.
Single gear would be ok for that.
I reckon they could throw a simple hub gear unit in without too much concept corruption though.

A five speed hub makes sense of these damn fool machines.
Or even better a 14 speed Rohloff hub.
I am waiting for some wag to reinvent the Hobby Horse, no pedals no drive chain.
They are becoming popular as starter bikes for little kiddies.
I am sure they would work well in the city.

thats the real answer right there, some local kids faff around on horrible dayglo BMX's I had to ask why none of them had brakes fitted...

When i used to dirt jump i always ran a rear otherwise youd pay a visit to the brambles at the end of the track
You could always go old school and fit sturmey archer 3 speed
