Advice needed for back boiler on gas bottle wood burner

Hello.

I want to make a Gas bottle wood burner, and have been reading alot of the posts here to see what others have been doing.

I want to put a back boiler on it and wondered if anyone knows about their construction. Do I just weld on an empty chamber that has two holes in it, one for water in, one for out? or should there be pipes and secret things inside it that I don't know about?

the best way would be to coil copper piping round & round inside the burner ive tried it but didnt have enough copper pipe at the time although it did heat up a bucket of water you could also coil it around the outside first which would then pre-heat it before reaching the inside of the burner.

but remember do NOT build a sealed water system because it can explode you would need to use a non ssealed header tank to keep the system full of water

If you use a steel vessel you'll need a rust inhibitor in the water.

Be aware of not taking too much heat from the fire or flue as the flue temp needs to be kept fairly high to prevent soot and tar formation, I learnt this from experience with a wood boiler, if you were to have the fire box surrounded with a water jacket it would more than likely burn too cold, but then again if you don't surround the fire enough then you will lose heat. It will tend to be trial and error so you may be best off going with the copper pipe wrap until you work out what you need, then get out the welder and do a more permanent prefessional job with the plating.
