Advertising trailer (no welding though)

Thought I might aswell post this up on here, even though the closest I get to metworking is griding off rusty bolts


This trailer is for a friend, he has relitives with fields

I started the project at the weekend



I bought this old ALKO caravan chassis off a mate

The plan is a twin sided ad trailer with 12x8 faces (to use standard size 8x4 boards)



I bought the wood on saturday morning, here I'm painting the sheets of 6mm ply in my brothers work:

The framework is gonna be 2"x2" timber

Here I've made a start on the sides, there will be more cross braces to support the ply:

And then I cut and drilled holes for the cross pieces on the chassis. Mainly 2x2 but I had some offcuts of scaffold board so I used 3 of them to make a strong "shelf" above the axle where you can pile up blocks to weigh it down. I will also have to make some mudguards to mount off these boards

The sides will start out at the rear corners of the chassis then come in and meet near the front.
I've now unbolted the wood from the chassis to give it a quick lick of black paint

Then started putting various cross braces and supports in, left it too late at night to get a proper photo though

Here's the mudguards I made out of an old tyre

Here's it with the stain on

Cut and fitted the OSB for the roof

Coated it in bitumen paint to water proof it

Have now cut and fitted the OSB for the rear, and painted that aswell

Put some windows in as well and you could use it as a sort of caravan. Oh, hang on a minute...

I've had a brilliant idea - why not get an old caravan and paint adverts on the side?

Any thoughts on ballast SC_BK, I see many of them laying on their side when the wind gets up while driving along city bypass, will your mate require insurance???

I've strapped some breeze blocks down inside it, and we will probably look at doing something with guy lines for when it's parked. I'm leaving in a minute to tow it over, just finished it!!

Heck of a way to go about it. Could you not just have put an ad in the local paper?

Sill people should be able to see. Perhaps better with the price and a phone number though
