Adding a second router to a network.

I think this has been covered before but I cant locate it.

I have a Super hub 3 running in modem mode.

This goes to an asus router. For logistical reasons there is an outdoor cable going to a switch where a lot of things are connected.

Then I took another cable from that switch to my workshop. Yes I could go full length with that cable but its time and I need more cable to pull it all through the walls etc.
Anyway its effectively the same as going direct to the Dlink router.
Its a short term fix till I get a decent router in my workshop.
BUT this is where my problems start. I cant remember how to configure the Dlink. I also cant see it on the network using Angry IP or Advanced IP scanner.

All I need is a few days of wifi and I can get my head straight again and sort it hard wired but I am currently using my phones 4G and its getting close to the 100gig limit now.

Any tutorials around or can someone link the thread on here as I am convinced its been asked before.

So you have both the Asus and Dlink routers on the same physical network?

disconnect the new router from the network and connect a lan cable to a pc or laptop.

login to the routers home page
turn off DHCP
set the routers own ip address to something in the high end range of the existing local network (for example if your current network range is 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255 then set it to 192.168.1.252 (or 253 or 251, you get the idea)

save settings
set up the wlan settings to whatever you want.
save settings.

reconnect new router to the lan.

problem solved.

Inside the house i have a plus net supplied router, the wifi name is called plusnet. Then, ive run cat 5 cable (from the plus net box) to the outside office where i have a switch box and a TP link WAP. This provides wired and WiFi access. Outside the network is arbitrarily called Office...

Well thanks guys. I did try searching but could not find it.

I solved it. Possibly not the right way but it works for now.
I used WiFi to login directly to the D-link 615.
That gave me several options so I used the wizard and as we went through adding time zone etc it reached several options. (Rather weird/spooky as I have never seen "Russian " options before). Anyway I steered clear of those and used DHCP option. That led me to an option to spoof/copy mac address.
Once I did that it rebooted and is now working..

That bit is quite simple and means the WiFi is much better.

the dlink 615 is a gamers router as i have 2 of them
as they are really reliable when in use
