Adblock pop up - yes, the irony of it!

Hi all, especially the more IT savvy which sadly does not include me!

For the last couple of weeks, every time I open up Firefox (my browser of choice) I get another window popping up (I believe that's the term) allegedly from GetAdBlock (which I do have on my PC) asking for payment.

Now, I get that it is technically free and that there is nothing wrong with requesting paymant (a bit like Wikipedia does from time to time), but, I don't wish to pay and I'd like the pop ups to stop.

So, has anyone else encountered this and can tell me how to make it stop?

Ad block Plus works fine for me, never payed phone or PC

In FF go to Tools, Add-ons & themes
Type in add blockers it will give you a list

Adblocker Ulimate for me. Never any pop ups for a contribution. There is a contribution button in the 'add ons manager of Firefox'.

Ha! Fixed it!

Following your lead @500e I discovered that it's an issue with the particular version of Firefox I'm using. As a workaround I've disabled Private Browsing (whatever that is and now it doesn't do it anymore.

I am on 115.0.3 (64bit)
In Tools, General, there is a section to allow auto update or check if there are outstanding up dates
My last one was 27 July

since you are getting it for free you shouldnt really mind the popups

i dont see the harm in your pop up thats for definate, at least its not a popup you cannot get rid of until you pay for there software

now i get alot of free stuff and there is some really annoying 10x+ popups before you get what you want and they can be annoying and the ones you cant get rid of are so annoying

but i except some of them as i am getting something for free

It has lots of other advantages, such as a low memory requirement and it doesn't slow down the browser if you have lots of filter lists & rules applied.

Yes same thing happened to me about 6 months ago when i was on firefox and using Adblock...i moved over to Chrome and it stopped.

Private Browsing is what you use for 'specialist' websites, before your wife comes downstairs in the morning.

Brave is Chromium derived, personally I prefer to not follow the herd, for diversity reasons, Firefox (actually, I use Waterfox) is Geko based so unlikely to a) be tied into google data-hoovering and b) less likely to suffer from a 'well poisioning' attack on the core code. duckduckgo uses the google search engine, I find it perplexing that the same search will re-order the results on an almost daily basis, It's still the default search engine for me with Bing being a backup.

If that was your mindset when browsing you wouldn't bother with an adblocker.
