Adapting a compressor

The thread about workshop space has got me thinking.
I've got a 150 ltr Ingersol Rand compressor that takes up a lot of space. The motor and pump are mounted on a small "chassis" that is bolted to the tank.
Could the tank somehow be sited elsewhere, say under the carport next to the garage, but the motor & pump still be in the garage ? Would I need a small tank (say 50 ltr) in the garage, under the pump / motor, to house the pressure switch ? I don't really want to have the pressure switch on the tank as that would then require wiring running between the motor/pump and the tank.

Just move the one way valve to the end of your pipework at the compressor outlet. In effect the pipe run becomes additional air capacity.

Basically I fitted an in-line non-return valve (NRV) and after that a T-piece, one side went to the pressure switch, the other to a male PCL connector. I fitted an unloading pipe between the switch and the pump side of the NRV.

I used a male PCL so I could plug my existing airline in, and with no airline connected it vented to atmosphere if the pump was started.

I'm contemplating separating my Clarke compressor from its tank so I can bring the pump inside to keep the external noise down (I've got new neighbours moving in).
