adapter plates

not exactly welding but please bear with me, ive got a job at work that were upgrading the control system for, during the upgrade all the motors on the machine need to be replaced, we are using a siemens solution, the motors that siemens have spec'd arent really compatable with the gearboxes and equipment on site, an example is, one of the gearboxes on site has a flange fitting of 100mm pcd and the input shaft is 19mm keyed, the equivalent servo motor from siemens is 130pcd and 24mm shaft.

is there anyone out there that sells off the shelf adapter plates that woud do what i need it to? we'd also need shaft reducers aswell.

Hi Scott,

Who's supplying the Siemens kit to you? is it S120? Sinamics/Simotion/Sinumerik? This is the sort of thing that crops up often, I'm surprised it hasn't been addressed pre-sales.

How has the 'equivilant' been spec'd?

luke, think siemens are supplying it direct, i believe its simotion apparently its a fairly new system, 13 or 16 axis controller or something, not too sure as ive not really had much to do with the electrical side of this job, it was allocated to one of my colegues (sp).

the equivalents were spec'd by siemens i believe, we have a current motor list which consists of bradley and ct (emerson) motors, from what i can gather we gave this list to siemens (or whoever) and they came back with a list of siemens 'evuivalent' motors.
granted the torque and power ratings of the motors are very equivalent but the frame sizes and mountings are different.

we havent bought the kit yet so it is sort of pre-sales. we just ned to get it spot on hence me double checking things, theres £50-60k just in siemens kit so alot to get wrong, lol

Try asking Siemens to supply suitable adapter plates hinting they may not get the order if you cannot couple their kit to yours?

I'm surprised you've just supplied a list of motors, rather than addressing each at an application specific level.

Simotion will do anything up to 64 axes (D445), with additional drive controllers, and has been around for a good number of years (4? 5?).

It might be worth getting one of their applications engineers to see the jobs then spec the motors, drives etc.

TIA is the word! erm, acronym!

We don't use Step7 Basic, mainly because we have very little to do with S7-1200 at the moment, I've heard a bit about it though. I spend most of my time in either Scout, or Simatic Manager.

Using one suite of software to be online to servos, inverters and motion control, as well as PLCs and HMIs at the same time is a nice way to work.

Certainly makes development and debugging, as well as fault finding and fixing much easier.

Yup, there's a starter kit floating around in our office somewhere. It's certainly an improvement on the S7-200 it's destined to replace.

Haven't found a use for it yet, we seem to use S7-300 or Logos, nothing in between!

Yup, S7-300s are our staple, though most of the time if there's a Simotion we use that for PLC functions too.

Get in touch with Siemens, they will send an applications engineer (FOC) to give you their best spec, then place the order with your supplier.
