Actually the stupidest question

This may sound stupid :-) but is the wire used to mig weld stainless steel, actually stainless? Does it have any sort of coating on it?

It's stainless wire, and available in different grades to match the material your welding too

Cheers for that. Do you know if it has any sort of coating on it? I ask because I have been asked as it could be used in homemade parrot toys

As far as I know it's uncoated, the carbon steel wire is copper plated but the stainless is not.

I've used stainless TIG filler for various other purposes besides welding.
There's no coating so I wouldn't worry about that.
