ACL operation rehab

Anyone had an ACL operation? How long did it take to get back to reasonable fitness/use.

My Mrs had the op yesterday and the washing basket is almost full. I said, don't worry, it'll sort itself out, I then got an education.

My neighbour did his ACL about 4 months ago while walking his dog. He's now back walking his dog, but slowly. He didn't do much for the first 2 months, he's a big chap and he couldn't bend his leg enough to get in a car for about 3 months. I'm taking him to the local brewery open day later, it takes him a while to get in the car.

You may be able accelerate service by making sure the ground under the washing line is nice and flat

Good luck, I hope the operation went well for her I had mine done about 20 years ago following a skiing accident my advice would be don't rush it gentle walking at first and try to get as much movement into the joint as possible early on without forcing it. Listen to the Physio I was lucky mine had had the same operation a couple of years earlier following a rugby incident. The best exercise I found was walking in the soft sand on the beach (I was working in Swansea at the time and could walk at lunch times).
With out being rude the advice from my surgeon was lose weight so I dropped a stone to 12.5 stone still around that weight now.
I was back skiing within a year of the op.

Can't help with recovery advice, but suggest you borrow a wheelchair and lower the washing line so she can reach it

Get her a pair of the wooden crutches, that way she can support herself under her arm pits hands free to carry on with her domestic duties

This was the shredded ends of her ACL yesterday morning. The NHS had been telling her for the last year that a bit of physio would sort it out. They refused to do any kind of a scan.

Anyway panic now over and £7 grand lighter after private surgery. She's back to work by lunchtime today.

When I had mine done walked in to the hospital in the morning and walked out the following morning, operation was at 5.30 in the afternoon so had the overnight stay for the recovery and obs from the anaesthetic. Walked out with crutches including negotiating the stairs as the missus parked in the furthest away car park. Took it steady to start with then progressed through physio keeping up with the exercises. I was back skiing without a brace within 12 months.
