Acid for Etching

I know this question has been asked before on this forum but for a different purpose. Having scoured the net I have come up with loads of different opinions so back to the trusty font, does anybody have any input or knowledge of which would would be the best type of acid to use for etching designs into cold reduced sheet steel, cheers all.

not sure how that works but conc Sulphuric Acid works very quickly......it also burns skin very quickly

Can't really see as it would make much difference what you use. Preference, accessibilty to materials and speed of etching would be the main points to determine your choice, IMHO.

I have etched steel, I used sulphuric acid[battery acid] and some volts I used a bit of ali welding rod as cathode, I wanted a pointy cathode..
You could probably use salt water and some old volts.
