acetylene gauge

I've just purchased myself a little 1 ft bottle of acetyline, sadly it is empty so needing to get it filled. Is there any way of modifying a gauge to transfer gas from a big bottle into my little bott
le? Or do these have to be filled at a certain pre
ssure?.

Don't even consider it, acetylene is not in a gaseous state in a cylinder, it is dissolved in acetone and stored as a liquid, the acetone is then absorbed into a spongy material such as kapok or charcoal, acetylene is a very unstable gas, and can only be refilled by the likes of BOC air products etc.

I cant think of many things more dangerous than DIY filling an Acetylene cylinder.

You need to get it exchanged for a full one. I expect the cylinder should be on a contract rental basis and shouldn't have been sold.

Shielding gas is one thing, but Acetylene, I think not. Please dont attempt it.
