Acetone shelf life

Is methanol any good in stead of acetone.

I have methanol here all the time that I use for my bio diesel

No methanol leave trace residues and any fumes will be pretty nasty

Acetone or Iso Propyl Alcohol is the o my stuff you want to be using.

£17 for 5L on eBay.

That goes a long way.

Seen some posts mentioning brake cleaner or IPA, which don't seem to evaporate (at least not as easily). Is acetone more gooder?

Propanol is acetone little brother, it's not as strong a solvent and not as bad for your skin.
IPA tastes better too.

This is dodgey stuff and burns with a clear flame youll not see in day light. Very volatile. Normal fire fighting foams dont perform very well with it either. It breaks them down quickly, so struggles to put out the fire.

Last place i worked had two 5000ton tanks an we used to pump it at 350 bar to where it was needed. Leaks were not popular.

Modern brake cleaners are very good and very convenient to get hold of from local motor stores.
I've got loads of acetone and brake/clutch cleaner kicking about and they both do a perfectly good job. Brake cleaner evaporates slightly slower but the results after wiping are equally as good.

I cleared a friend's workshop (building a 40ft composite catamaran until dementia got him) and ended up with a 200lt barrel of Acetone. It does wiff off fast, so tight bungs needed. Very useful for all sorts of cleaning. No shelf life.
