ACE/Blasitclean/SB990 blast pot

I've been eyeing up a pot blaster for a couple urgent of jobs that are too big for the cabinet.
The local guy I use for big stuff has just come back with a quote that made my eyes water.

Got a lead on a secondhand unit which is one of these ACE gritblasters, now rebranded BlastitClean and also sold (I think now discontinued) under Sealey SB990
Looks fairly well made, but a bit of googling pulled up some threads on here that they might not be as reliable as the generic chinese pot blasters, although people recommend buying their carbide nozzles.
Anybody got one?

I know you can modify the chinese ones with a sand valve to improve performance etc, but I'd need something cheap I can get up and running with quickly.

I don't see how this is any better than the generic Chinese ones, in fact the feed system looks even worse.
I think you would need to do as much work to these as to the other cheap ones but it does have a proper nozzle and that the worst feature of the other version.
I'd check if the nozzle suits you as it's probably the best part of that pot.

Any pot will benefit from a proper feed valve, but for a start, change the nozzle to something similar to the ACE one and it will work as well or better.
I use the blastitclean nozzle and it's still fine after literally tons of grit has been put through it.

When you've time fit a proper feed valve.
I made one 6 years ago and it hasn't missed a beat until yesterday and it was a easy fix.

Your work on the grit valve was certainty the inspiration for me having a go at this.

Here's my version so far.
Started messing about with it after my earlier post in this thread.

Dimensions, as always, are based on what's in the scrap pile.
I remembered I had a bit of 72mm tie-bar kicking about so dug it out to see what it's like to cut and machine.
They are usually a similar grade to re-bar but this is old (70 or 80 years?) so it's anybody's guess.
It seems fine to work with.

its prety krap and small and a ballsache to fill. the only good thing on it is the hoses and the blast nozzle and water seperator worth about 40 quid for the parts to put on a bigger pot.even those have a hit and miss ball valve for the media controll, if your wanting it for blasting bigger stuff its only got a 3mm jet and you would need at least 28 cfm comp to be any good
