Accoya door price

I've been asked to make/fit a garden door for a client, as it's their bread and butter I approached a small local bespoke timber door/window company as I figured it would be cheaper and quicker for the client than me making a door as I'm not really set up for it.

For supply only, standard sized door, with frame, no hardware and unfinished I've been quoted £2400.

I feel like this is a bit steep, I know accoya is an expensive timber and somewhat of an investment but I was really expecting something closer to £1700...

If that's the going rate for an accoya door then fair enough...itl probably need to be Oak in that case.

Getting fed up with these mad prices for everything...everyone appears to be making a killing apart from me.

It's not just the timber mate. Cost of living has gone up as has overheads.
Plus everyone is very busy.

I'm well aware everything is up, my workshop leccy bill was terrifying, my overheads are just as up as everyone else's..

Just trying to establish if that's really the going rate.

I bet the lads making the doors wages aren't up though....

Been quoted higher than that pre covid mate. And that was oak.

Can you do it cheaper and make a worthwhile profit.

Really? That's wild. It grows on trees you know?

Can I do it cheaper with a worthwhile profit? I suspect so, Even if the timber is twice the price of European oak, that's not the point though.

Surely a firm specialising in doors and windows should be able to compete with or beat someone like me? After all, I didn't make my own fridge because the fridge manufacturer can do it way cheaper.

If there not shifting units they're gonna have to charge top wack.

They appear to be busy, jobs booked until August they say. Plenty of activity on their socials.

Just the one for now, I was so aghast at the price I had to ask.
