Acceptable to use PCL XF fittings on Argon hose..?

Would it be bad or unsafe practice to use PCL XF type fittings to connect to rear of MIG and/or TIG machines in place of 3/8" BSP brass..?

(Bottles aren't mounted on rear of either machines and I tend to keep bottles in one place and move machines around depending on what I'm doing.)

Rectus 21 seem to the favorite option.
The PCL XFs should be fine but it could be expensive if they leak.

top tip, don't buy the cheap ones from ebay, I did, they leak... centralised my torch cooler and ran in feed pipes to the back of the workshop for the mig and Tig, couple of isolation valves and quick connects, idea being to switch them over between tig / mig welders as needed. All works fine, except next day lovely patch of coolant on the deck, quick connects leaking..... will try the tidyco ones then.. buy cheap buy twice.... aye...

Thanks again to everyone that has suggested Rectus 21, have what I think are the right parts in my basket...

To me it would make sense to have the plug on the rear of the machine and the socket (with valve) on the end of the hose so that if I am silly enough to pull out the hose before turning off the gas at the bottle I don't lost any gas. However, it seems that convention has this the other way around; plug on the hose and socket on the back of the machine?

Kemppi have always done it with the flow direction coming from the socket, just as you suggest...

Everyone else... it varies... When I bought some rectus 21s to make some QR hoses for my machines, I went with the same direction as the EN561 QR on my high capacity bottle which was reverse (flow comes from the male plug)

Essentially I don't think it matters, you still have to check for leaks etc whatever the connection types.

Mine are set up as you suggest handsome, the female gas stop on the feed line and the male plug on the machine. To my mind it saves the gas if you make a snafu when disconnecting and it also stops solenoid being pressurised after a job and needing depressurised.

Another advantage I see of having the plug on the rear of the machine is that it is a far shorter and therefore less likely protrubrence to get accidentally knocked or broken off the rear of the machine.

How have you found the quick connects over the last few years? I’m now looking for some for connecting my MIG as I don’t want to move my bottle. it appears the rectus 21 are normally used for water (window cleaning) unless there are different models.. They are cheap though...

Yes, I get mine (genuine Parker Rectus fittings) from a place on eBay that supplies the window cleaning trade! No problems whatsoever with them; use them on both MIG and TIG machines.

I use 6mm but they also do larger. This seller did, by accident, send Rectus 'type' fittings but promptly rectified their mistake once I'd pointed it out - there was a discernible difference between them.
