If you don't have the old printer uninstall the HP software, reboot, then try loading the new driver you downloaded again. With luck that way it'll let windows take care of the printer.

All you need to do is connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable. When you set the IP address on the printer and point your pc to it, it will talk to it using TCP/IP. Hang on - I'm assuming that the pc is connected to the Internet?

TCP/IP is the network protocol - same as used on t'internet. Once you have the printer drivers loaded, the pc will use tcp/ip to talk to the printer. No extra effort required from you - the network card in the pc and the network card in the printer will handle all the communications. All you have to do is specify the ip addresses, which isn't as hard as it sounds! Pm me your phone number and I'll talk you through it if you like. I set mine up yesterday and it took about 10 mins start to finish!

Exactly what I did with our printer and Orange Livebox to make the printer effectively wireless. Twas not complicated. Note Paul, your printer wont have a name on your computer anymore, but a number - 192.168.x.x or summat.

Still needed the right driver though.

Just got off the phone to India 20 mins ago. Very helpful chap talked me through various changes to settings to the thingymajiggy and whatsname.
Anyway, its humming away behind me churning out massive drawings. Can throw the magnifying glass away now.
