A sort of Gas question

Hi

I was just wondering if there is such a thing as used on sprayers spray guys, as in a quick relises male and female plug for the use of conecting the welder to the Gas

What do the site guys use???
must be a right pain conecting the gas, un-conecting etc etc

A firm called PCL make some very nice mini connectors,There are also quite a few in the ebay shops and pretty cheap too.

But what I am looking for is a add on, not so much a splice in.

what I want to find is a specific quick relise conector that fit between the original reg and gas hose.
I dont really want to start cutting things as reversing them is a pain.

it needs to have the half round male/female fitting on one end and the quick realise on the other.

My aron bottle is massive.

moving the welder and bottle as one is less work than just moving the bottle then the welder.

a quick release would work wonders, far simpler than building a trolly etc etc.

I intend to keep the welder mobile as it might get moved about a lot, in the car etc etc

I use the W bottle too, I just use a spanner, I wouldn't want to be moving the bottle around all the time, a trolley makes a lot of sense. I don't ever move my bottle as i have 8 metre leads.

You can get quick release connectors specifically for shielding gases, also available for oxygen and acetylene. Pricey mind.
Air line connectors are a cheaper alternative and will work ok.

Yes I find the two minutes it takes to find a spanner and undo the nut on the regulator tail such a bind

Sorry i don't get it either. Cylinders with integrated regulators aside (which do use a q/r coupling for the gas line) the regulator should be removed for transport and only refitted once the cylinder is secured (chained to wall/on back of welder cart etc) for use. Clout something/knock the cylinder over while moving it with the reg attached and you're pretty much guarenteed to destroy the regulator (and with TIG typically a couple of flowmeters at the same time). If the cylinder valve wasn't closed properly because not needing the regulator spanner it wasn't checked then it'd be hello to a world of pain.
A Q/R coupling at the gas inlet to the welder would save a few secs spanner twirling. When i'm splitting kit for mobile work the reg and gas hose stay attached to the welder and secured to it.

quick relese coupleings are brilliant.

reason i use them is i use size w bottels my workshop is quite small and full.
the bottels live chained to the wall and don't move welder lives under the bench so when i want it simpley clip the line in and turn the gas on, that also means the regs lie on the bottels so don't get bashed about when dragging the welder about. also use one for the purge line with te tig as well

You can get them at BOC Gas and Gear shops but would think most welding distributors would be able to supply them, they have been around for years now

I would reinforce what Hotrodder says, if you are moving a cylinder in a vehicle you must take the regulator off first
