Skew/mitre cuts expressed as xx mm skew on drawings gets me too. Our saw has degrees on it, not mm

I prefer the mm on bigger stuff, saw has degrees, but only takes a fraction of a degree to be miles out on bigger stuff.
Always helpful when slightly either side of 45 and you arn't quite sure.

So if your cutting a 45 degree mitre on a big bit of box, say 300shs, would you mark off a 300 skew and cut to that rather than set saw to 45 degrees

Not for 45, but for 42 for instance, i will sometimes mark the splay to double check i have the saw the right way.

Of if there is a lot of cutting, i will setup with the saw on 45, and use the measurement to double check the accuracy.
Taking time to cut things right makes it much easier for the rest of the job.

There is always the one in sixty rule. One degree off course will put you one mile off after sixty run. (on the knee nav, flying in single seaters) Can be useful for quick calcs in other fields.
