A recent gate

I ask a lot of really dreary questions on this forum, so by way of rebalancing my contribution, here's a gate I made & installed recently.
I didn't make the newt, it's solid cast bronze, but I did figure out a way of including it. I designed & forged the rest of the gate.
I posted a few YouTube videos during the making too, if anyone's interested.

But being a grumpy ****, all I can think about is having to de-lichen, de-green it, wire brush it and paint it when it needs it . . .

Is the newt called 'Tiny'?

If you fill the hex recess of the button head screw with JB Weld, it would look like a traditional rivet.

Cheers all. This was the second gate I made for them. First was these doubles. They've said they want 2 more gates elsewhere & their garden is going to be photographed for a big gardening magazine, so my work will get a bit of print exposure, which will be nice.

not only execptional workman ship, but design as well , probably the best I have seen ,certainly compares in style to antique gates. you should be both proud and happy you can make a living doing what you obviously love , may you long continue and flourish .

Great work - I wish I was anywhere near as artistic.

Thanks very much. You should check out Brian Russell of Little Newsham Forge website, or my favourite blacksmith, David Tucker artist blacksmith website. Brian has a gold medal from the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths. His work is absolutely incredible in terms of craftsmanship & design. David's style is a bit more refrained in design, but pure class.
I find designing incredibly difficult & with both these gates the result isn't bang on my natural style, it's me interpreting my client's brief to design what they want, so in some senses, doubly difficult for me. The rose & clematis one was a bit more collaborative with the client in design as they kept wanting more added & for it to be more uneven. What I drew what a bit more symmetrical.
Re: making a living...narrowly surviving would be a better description at times!!

unfortuantuantly history dictates true craftsmen only ever make a living and life and style is dictated by thier customers..
